In 1975, Disney released the original black and white "Mickey Mouse Club" episodes to syndicated television. They were so well received by young audiences of the time that Disney was convinced to bring back the show as The New Mickey Mouse Club, starting in January, 1977. While the show had 2 seasons, it didn't make it to a 2nd year. It was never as popular as the original. Much of the criticism of the show centered around the editing. Segments were taped individually, and then, added together with little to connect them. Episodes rarely had a tie to the date they were shown and often seemed disconnected from each other and the themes. The show repeated through 1978 and early 1979. At times in 1978, previous episodes would be reedited, combined, and split to create seemingly "new" episodes. However, all of these were simply repeats of previously aired materials.

The Outlaw Josey Wales

The plot of 'Outlaw Josey …
The plot of 'Outlaw Josey Wales' unfolds during a period of time that spans before and after the Civil War. This film was a critically acclaimed Western, directed by, and starring Clint Eastwood which was filmed at a time when the making of Hollywood Westerns was a dying art form. The central character of the film is Josey Wales, a Missouri farmer who is turned into a fugitive after his wife and son were killed by a group of Union army "Redlegs". After losing his family, Wales joins up with a marauding guerrilla unit of bushwhackers making its way across Missouri. At war's end, the guerrillas are targeted by the government and are rounded up. Josie Wales fails to surrender, and he takes off on his own westward across the plains. He is pursued by a former friend and the Union officer who killed his family. At this point, Wales has nothing left to live for but revenge. Although his great desire is to be simply left alone, Josie Wales inexplicably becomes the nucleus of a growing band of renegades and castoffs from divergent parts and backstories. There is 'Lone Waite', a Cherokee Indian, a character played by Sondra Locke (in her first Clint Eastwood film), a Native American girl, and some settlers who run into Wales on their way out of Texas. After gunning down a detachment of Redlegs Wales has a $5,000 bounty award put on him. Now an outlaw, Wales escapes capture until he and some of his band are trapped inside a ranch house When attacked most of the defenders are killed but Wales in anger and out of ammunition mounts a horse and chases after the Captain who was pursuing him all along. Guns empty, Wales draws on the Captain and pulls the trigger a dozen or more times to no effect before killing the man with his own sword and obtaining the revenge he has long sought after.

Little Big Man is a U.S. comedy western movie that was directed by Arthur Penn. Based upon the novel by Thomas Berger, it concerns a white boy who was raised by Cheyenne nation Indians during the 19th century. The film stars Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Chief Dan George, Martin Balsam, Richard Mulligan and Jeff Corey. The film contrasts the lives of Native Americans against the American pioneers of the day throughout the boy's life. Despite the satire there are tragic aspects and a social element concerning injustice and prejudice. Jack (Dustin Hoffman) develops into a hermit and a trapper. He becomes upset after discovering an empty trap containing an animal limb. When he decides to commit suicide, he spots Custer and his troops, instead preparing to avenge the animal’s death and that of others. Custer winds up hiring him as a scout, since he believes that Jack will only lie - reasoning that he can serve them well as an informant of the other side. Jack winds up leading the troops into a Little Bighorn trap. Prior to the attack, Jack tells Custer the truth about the overwhelming existence of Native Americans hiding in the valley. However, Custer disbelieves him, instead leading the charge to its total demise. Custer then raves insanely - ignoring the circling warriors and targeting Jack. Custer is then killed by Native American, Younger Bear. Younger Bear then informs Jack that he can murder him without being considered evil. Jack rides with Old Lodge Skins to nearby hills where aged, tired leaders decide that it is time to end his life. He then offers his spirit up to the Great Spirit. When he lays down waiting for death, it starts to rain. Old Lodge Skins resides himself to the fact that at times magic will work, and other times it does not. They go back to the tepee for dinner. Jack ends his narrative, dismissing the historian, as he thinks of the melancholy memories of a world long gone. Considered a revisionist piece, the Native Americans receive more sympathetic treatment than U.S. Cavalry who are shown as villainous.

The Virginia Graham Show hosted by Virginia Graham with her machine-gun-like barrage of questions, quips, karate chops and interjections, she cuts through the amenities to get to the meat of her guests and topics. Few subjects were taboo and the show sometimes resembled a verbal slug-fest with no holds barred. Involvement and interaction was the key to the show. Virginia got involved with her guests, her guests got involved with each other, and they all got involved with both the in-studio and home audiences. Each show featured four or five guests selected from the entertainment world, the intellectual community and other prominent news-makers. Introduction of new variety talent and showcase spots for established entertainers who joined in the conversation once they had performed, was all part of the format. The competition was tough, as one lone female up against the likes of Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Steve Allen, Dick Cavett and David Frost.
