In this biopic, Amanda Seyfried plays Linda Lovelace, the pornographic actress who shocked the world in 1972 with her adult film, "Deep Throat." The movie explores both the light and the dark side of the adult entertainment industry. We see how the sheltered Linda Boreman became one of the first widely acclaimed and recognizable porn stars, winning fame, glamour, and infamy. At the same time, the movie illustrates Linda Lovelace's ambivalence to this world. We see how she is manipulated by those around her, even, and perhaps especially, by those who are closest to her. Her relationship with her controlling husband, played by Peter Sarsgaard, and her unsympathetic mother, played by Sharon Stone, reveal to us a story much more frightening and much less glamorous than what plays out on the surface.
