Knowing von Luden's inhuman reputation, Mame transfers the photo assigning her to Dave Hart, to Mary's Identification card. Castro, the mail-runner, delivers a letter to von Luden informing him that Hart, his partner, is wanted in the United States on an embezzlement charge. Mame, in order to protect Mary, presents herself as a job applicant while Mary is introduced to Dave and his fellow supervisors (Pete, Joe and Bill) as a bride applicant. Dave rescues Mary from a lustful and brutish attack by von Luden. Pretty Mataeo Rogers, half-breed daughter of the camp's drunken doctor, is celebrating her 18th birthday and is lured to von Luden's jungle castle. Later, natives find her body in the swamp. Detectives Steve and Al arrive to extradite Dave.

Sheila, a country girl, goes to work in a city department store. After a quick courtship, she marries Ray Underhill, not knowing he is a car thief. She is sent to prison with her husband. There, Underhill meets Norries, a swindler, who has hidden his money but intends to pay back his victims. Convict 565 tells Norries he does not expect to live long and offers to transfer to him a diamond mine he owns in Africa. Norries and Underhill escape, and Underhill discovers the location of Norries' money. After Sheila finishes her sentence, Ray joins her, and is arrested again, but not before telling her where Norries' has hidden the money. Sheila takes the money and goes to South Africa. Eventually she meets Norries, who has secured the diamond mind. Believing Underhill is dead, Sheila marries Norries, who decides he will return to America and return the stolen funds. Sheila discovers Underhill is still alive, but when Underhill is hiding from detectives, he is mistakenly shot by his pal Valhays. As Underhill falls, he shoots and hills Valhays. Sheila and Norries realize the police are not after them, so Norries pays back the swindled money.

Whiskey smuggler Dubec, trades liquor to the Indians, takes revenge on the Royal North West Mounted Police pursuing him by killing the wife of post commander Sergeant Delisle and abducting his teen-aged daughter Nonette. After twelve years of futile searches, the eighteenth birthday celebration of Delisle's other daughter Julie is disrupted when Sergeant MacNair arrives to replace Delisle because Delisle cannot control the lawlessness in the camp. MacNair falls in love with Julie though she scorns him. When Dubec and Nonette, now his wife, return from the Klondike with a dance hall troupe of women, Delisle, not recognizing Dubec but resenting his flirtations with Julie, orders them to leave. Dubec captures Julie and MacNair, forcing Julie to dance, and offers her to the highest bidder. MacNair saves her just as Delisle, warned by Nonette of Dubec, arrives. Nonette is reunited with her father, and MacNair and Julie, now in love, embrace.

Shortly after the engagement of Dorothy Manners to Frank Esmond, manager of her father's contracting firm, is announced, she is visited by a girl who warns her against the man. Suspicious, Dorothy arranges to disappear, ostensibly on a visit to her aunt. Instead, she sends her aunt a series of letters to be sent her father, and obtains a position, disguised as much as possible, in her father's office to observe Esmond. The manager is puzzled. He is certain she is Dorothy, but he is constantly receiving letters from her in another city. Dick Mason has been put out by his father, a rival contractor. He meets Dorothy as a working girl in the same boarding house. Manners gives him work, thinking it is a good joke on his rival. Esmond, growing bold, makes advances to the girl and is frustrated by Dick. When the elder Mason finds his son is making good he invites him to return home. Manners and his daughter are dinner guests. When the two clerks meet in these surroundings the girl produces a note written the day before by Dick. It reads: "l told you I was going to marry you. Well, what 1 said, goes!" "I found your note," she says, and everything is all settled before the fathers reveal to the young persons their true identities.

He clips a curl while she sleeps and leaves a note explaining that he "Tuk the kurl bekawse yure the purtiest gurl I ever saw." Donaldson, the colonel's close friend, adopts Jimmy, who grows up into a well-educated young man. Joyce likes him immediately, but he has a rival, Carl Bellou. Jimmy writes a note to Joyce informing her that one of her suitors is the little chimney sweep who has striven ever since to make himself worthy of her. He tells Bellou about it and the latter hurries to announce himself as the chimney sweep. "I had hoped it was Jimmy," she tells him, and Jimmy enters in time to hear her words. He had the ring with him.

Lechison sees the picture and wished to buy the woman, while Czerny, a musician, appreciates art and wants to buy it for its beauty. Lechison leases a studio and advertises for a model. Adele sees the ad and, hoping to help her husband, who is down to his last cent, she applies for the position and is accepted. Not until Lechison tries to make love to her does she realize the trap that she has stepped into. She screams, and Czerny, the musician goes to her aid. He kills Lechison. Adele is accused of murder, but her husband, to shield her, confesses his guilt. Adele then declares she committed the crime. Czerny comes forward with his confession, and Adele is freed.
