It's the early twentieth century. Preteen Pollyanna Whittier has led a simple life as part of a church family, her parents former missionaries, with her father now a minister. Following the deaths of her parents, Pollyanna is sent to live with her wealthy maternal spinster aunt, Polly Harrington, in the town of Harrington, founded by the Harrington family. Pollyanna had never met her aunt before arriving in Harrington. Polly feels an obligation to the family name, and as such controls almost every aspect of what happens in town, which she is able to do as a Harrington company has dealings with almost every other company and person in town, she not afraid to wield that clout if anyone goes against her, especially Mayor Karl Warren. In that control, she will not allow her personal assistant/one of her maids, Nancy Furman, to be seen in public with her beau, George Dodds, as Polly believes such behavior is disrespectful to her as Nancy's employer. Polly even controls the church as Reverend Ford vets his sermons through her, they always, on Polly's directive, of a fire and brimstone nature. She also took in Pollyanna solely out of obligation rather than out of kindness or love. The town orphanage, the building for which Polly's father donated to the town, is in major disrepair. Polly would rather pay money out of her own pocket to make whatever band-aid repairs to the building than to embark on a community project to raise funds for a new orphanage solely as the building has the Harrington name. As opposed to Polly's stern outlook, Pollyanna, based on the teachings of her father, tries to find the good in everything and everyone. These someones include perhaps the two most disliked people in town, recluse Old Man Pendergast, the town's children believing he having other children who have trespassed on his property imprisoned in his basement, and disagreeable Mrs. Snow, who thinks more about dying than living. But the toughest nut for Pollyanna to crack may be her Aunt Polly, with her singular focus on control over the town to her standards and morals. Pollyanna may get some help in the matter of her aunt by Mayor Warren's nephew, Dr. Ed Chilton, a former resident who now lives in Baltimore, who is back in town for the first time in five years on a vacation, and who was once Polly's beau.

Wagon Train first aired on September 18, 1957 and would eventually place the TV show in the number one spot in the Nielsen ratings. The series format attracted big name guest stars who would appear in major roles as travelers in the large wagon train or in the settlements they passed by or visited. It initially starred veteran movie supporting actor Ward Bond as the wagon master, later replaced upon his death in 1960 by John McIntire, and Robert Horton as the scout, subsequently replaced by Scott Miller and Robert Fuller.'

The Jane Wyman Show

This filmed drama anthology featured Academy Award …
This filmed drama anthology featured Academy Award winner Jane Wyman as the series hostess introducing each weekly installment, as well as starring in 42 of the 94 episodes. This series was a complete revamping of Fireside Theatre, with Wyman taking over as the producer from Frank Wisbar; it was produced by Jane Wyman's Lewman Productions in conjunction with Music Corporation of America's Revue Productions. The initial title was Jane Wyman's Fireside Theatre, but would soon lose any reference to Fireside in its title. The sponsor was Procter and Gamble (Duz, Ivory Soap, and Crisco) which reportedly paid almost $5,000,000 for the show's first season. Wyman's series differed from The Loretta Young Show, the standard bearer of the filmed star anthologies of the period, which also aired on NBC. Unlike Young, Wyman did not make a dramatic entrance at the top of the show, favoring the more subdued for which she was known. Of her years as a groundbreaking female television producer, Jane Wyman once commented, "I learned one thing - you can always get quality if you are quality." Scripts came from many top-notch writers, including Quinn Martin (The Untouchables, 1959-63), Aaron Spelling (The Mod Squad, 1968-73), Rod Serling (Twilight Zone, 1959-64) and Gene Rodenberry (Star Trek, 1966-69). At the end of its three seasons on NBC, The Jane Wyman Show was successfully sold into off-network syndication beginning with the 1958-59 season. Rerun into the 1960s, the series had its widest exposure as a weekday afternoon offering on ABC from 01/02/62 to 09/06/63. Episodes also re-aired in primetime as episodes of Studio 57 (Synd., 1956-57) and as part of the summer replacement series Summer Playhouse (NBC, 1957), Buick Adventure Theatre (ABC, 1958), Spotlight Playhouse (CBS, 1959) and Jane Wyman Presents (ABC, 1963).

Mr. Dodd Takes the Air

In the small town of …
In the small town of Pewamo, Claude Dodd, an electrician singing baritone in the local Strawberry Festival is heard by the owner of the Morpheus Mattress Company, who hires him to sing on the radio program he sponsors. Before he leaves for New York with his manager, "Sniffer" Sears, he has a minor operation to cure an attack of quinsy, and is told by the doctor not to use his voice. In front of the radio microphone the following week, he finds he's a tenor when he sings, much to the chagrin of the mattress company owner, who hates tenors. But that soon changes when telegrams pour in praising his voice, so that the station owner, Gateway, offers him a contract for 52 weeks, at a salary of $1000 per week, which was upped from the initial offer by Gateway's secretary, Marjorie Day, signalling Sears. Marjorie took a liking to Claude and vice versa, so while Claude becomes wealthy and famous, he and Marjorie fall in love. Because of his fame, he meets ditsy but egotistical opera singer, Mme. Sonia Moro, who almost instantly talks of marrying him, but he avoids her clutches. When Claude demonstrates to Marjorie his invention which made a cheap radio sound beautiful, she gets upset to hear it was never patented. Sniffer spills the beans about that to Jim Lidin and gold digger Jessica Stafford, who both conspire to steal the invention from Claude as well as fleece some of his money. Marjorie secretly patents the invention to protect Claude, but the patent is in her name. She explains her actions, but Jessica accuses Marjorie of trying to steal the invention herself, so Claude doesn't know what to believe. To get away from it all, he fakes losing his voice and heads back home without the invention or Jessica, thinking he would never see either one again.

The King and the Chorus Girl

Ex-King Alfred VII is a young, …
Ex-King Alfred VII is a young, handsome, and charming erstwhile monarch who once ruled a nation of two million people. Now all he has left are his Count Humbert and Duchess Anna, along with enough money to live an idle life in Paris with dozens of servants. He hasn't seen daylight in years; he prefers instead to drink himself into a stupor regularly. He's phenomenally bored, and a routine trip to a tedious cabaret finds a chorus girl flirting with him. He calls her to his apartment, apparently to seduce her as he's done many times before, but when she comes, he's passed out. Her outrage gives Humbert and Anna the idea that might bring Alfred out of his unhappy ennui - tell him she didn't come, and have her act as though he weren't so important after all. He of course pursues her with vigor and is snapped out of his apathy. But what happens if she falls in love with him?
