After winning the world championship at the Junior Goodwill Games as Team USA, the Mighty Ducks are awarded scholarships to play for Eden Hall, a prep school. Charlie Conway, the team’s captain is upset that Gordon Bombay will not be coaching the team at their new school. As the Ducks are getting use to their new settings, they are rudely encountered by the varsity hockey team. The team meets their new coach, Ted Orion. Charlie instantly dislikes Orion for his style of coaching, a style unfamiliar to the Ducks. In their first game with Orion as their coach, they blow a big lead resulting in a tie. After Orion decides to abandon many team traditions including disallowing the Ducks uniforms. After another conflict with Orion, Charlie quits the team. His teammate Fulton soon follows but would soon rejoin the team. Charlie’s departure from the team disappoints his friends, his teammate, his mentor Hans. After Hans passes away, Gordon Bombay returns to meet with Charlie. Gordon takes Charlie to Eden Hall to see Orion skating with his disabled daughter. Gordon explains that while the Minnesota North Stars left for Dallas, Orion ended his career to care for his daughter. After learning that Gordon told Orion about Charlie’s accomplishments and how he was the heart and soul of the team, Charlie rejoins the team. Pleased with his decision, Orion allows him back. However, news of the team’s scholarships being cancelled reaches the team. Orion threatens to quit his coaching job if nothing is done. They bring in Gordon as their attorney to successfully argue their case. Before the JV-Varsity game, Orion brings back the Ducks jerseys. The intense showdown ended in a 1-0 win over the varsity after goalie-turned defenseman Greg Goldberg scores a last minute goal.

In 1976, an American epidemiologiost played by Matthew Modine is at the Ebola River in Zaire. He discovers that many of the residents of a village have died from Ebola hemorrhagic fever and assists in their horrorific cremations. It is his first experience with an epidemic. Upon returning to the United States, Modine begins working at the Center for Disease Control and is called upon to investigate a new disorder affecting gay men in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City. All that was known about the disease was that it destroyed the human immune system. It was thought to affect only homosexual males. Modine learns that the disease is not limited to gay males, but affects hetrosexuals, hemophiliacs and babies too. His attempts to enlighten the band that consists of the scientific, medical and political communities. His work reveals jealousy and infighting within and between them, while he encounters considerable resistance from them. In the interim, AIDS related infections and deaths continue to increase at a ghastly pace while the band played on.
