Sassy Dixie Daisy is the hot new attraction at a former opera house that's been turned into a burlesque theater. She's popular with the customers, although not with Lolita La Verne, a stuck-up diva who was hoping she'd get the top spot. Also complicating matters is the return of the Princess Nirvena, the show's former star who once had a fling with the boss. When the Princess blackmails her way into the top spot, Dixie is none too pleased. When both Lolita and the Princess are murdered, Dixie becomes a prime suspect. She then sets up a trap to nail the real killer.

Its is NYC in 1928 and taxi-cab owners Tim McGuerin and Eddie Corbett are making a hard-scrabble living with the one tumbledown cab they have between them, and take shifts driving. They have plans to expand and already have their second cab in their garage, lacking only a motor. Tim, led into a burlesque theatre by a rich drunk, Reginald Van Nostrum, who has rented the cab for the day, falls in love at first sight with dancer Sadie O'Brien, who has also caught the eye of gangster Louis Glorio, and the latter is none too thrilled with Tim's courtship of Sadie. The latter though is taken also with Tim, and barely even knows that Glorio has staked a claim on her. She gives two of Glorio's henchman, Stretch and Joe the money to buy a motor for Tim and Eddie's second cab. The two, in an economy move, steal the motor from the first cab and install it in the second cab. Meanwhile, Glorio has his henchman Silk plant guns and booze in the boy's cab, while they are playing baseball, and the police are called. After several hours of intense grilling in which the "thoirty-thoid" degree grilling of Tim and Eddie does more damage to the grillers than the grillees, the police finally release them, primarily because they have discovered that a fingerprint on the planted tommy-gun belongs to a long-sought gangster known as the Frisco Ghost. Silk, despite his name, is not the smoothest nor brightest star in hoodlum circles and has planted a gun taken from (what must have been a big) drawer in Glorio's desk. Glorio is about to force Tim to aid him in escaping the fast-approaching police in his cab, which might have been a good plan if the cab had still had a motor.

Reissued by Realart Pictures in 1953 as "Texas Road Agent", with a title change because RKO had just made a 1952 film using this title, and this was the first year that Universal's "Road Agent" was known as "Texas Road Agent" and that was not a 1941 alternate title as shown by some revisionist-history sources. The actual 1941 filming title was "The Sonora Kid." Duke Masters and his two pals, Pancho and Andy, are undercover agents for an express company sent to round up a gang of bandits who have been holding up stages carrying gold to the cattlemen of the district. They begin by hijacking a gold shipment from the three bandits who took it from the stage. They take it to town and drop it at the bank. The money was the annual payment to the cattlemen, who are excitedly surrounding bank president Sam Leavitt. Steve and the two gunmen who helped him rob the stage are in the crowd. They report this unexpected turn of events to their boss, Big John Morgan. Morgan tries unsuccessfully to pin the original robbery on Duke and his pals. He later confers with Leavitt who is an unwilling tool in the holdups. Morgan tries to decoy Duke, Pancho and Andy out of town while his gang holds up the bank, but Duke, with the help of Leavitt's daughter, Patricia, beats them to it and cleans out the bank himself, taking the money to Leavitt's home to cache. But Morgan, Steve and the gang are in pursuit.

And, then, he finds a thousand dollar bill. His honesty makes him advertise the find, but no one claims the money. When he is convinced that the owner will not turn up and that the money is his to keep, he becomes a changed, more aggressive and self-confident person. He begins to make sales as fast as he can make the pitch and he insists that he and Molly be married at once. While getting dressed for the ceremony, he places the $1000 bill in one of his father's old suits, and Pa Armstrong, trying to raise money to buy his son a wedding present, sells the suit to a passing junk man. The wedding is held up while Henry and his father set out to reclaim the suit. They trace the suit to a second-hand store, where it has just been stolen by a couple of tramps. Henry locates the tramp who has the suit, and trades him his new coat for it and is relieved to find the bill still in the pocket. Shortly afterward, the clothing store man arrives with the police and charges Henry with theft. Broght before the justice of peace, Henry explains about the bill and turns it over to him. The latter examines the bill and discovers it to be a fake and just an imitation put out by a furniture store as an advertisement. Henry takes the news philosophically, and decides that since he was successful when he "thought" he had a thousand dollars, he can retain the traits he had acquired.

Inspector Decker Dawes investigates the case and although the cause of death is described as apoplexy, Dawes is convinced it as murder, especially after he learns that Humbolt had been married fifteen times. The widows come from all over the world but three of them live in NYC; Sybilla Crum, a noted evangelist; Carol Manning, recently remarried to a man named Arnold; and Ruby Cotton. A detective is sent to Philadelphia to try to learn the identity of the sender of a box of flowers delivered to Humbolt's room before his death. Dawes calls on Carol Manning Arnold, who says she had married Humbolt five years ago, and that he had disappeared after stealing all her money and she was told he had died in South America. But he had recently shown up trying to blackmail her as she had not told Arnold of the marriage. The autopsy shows that Humbolt was killed by hydrocyanic acid gas and that the broken glass globe, found by Dawes, was a Helmholtz resonator, a well-known device that can be broken by sound-waves. Sybilla Crum goes to the district attorney to try to stop the investigation, while Dawes also learns that, unknown to her husband, Carol maintains an apartment in her maiden name. Dawes hears a radio program featuring The Electric Voice in which the latter demonstrates the power of sound waves emanating from his voice in breaking glasses, ringing bells and other feats. When the Voice emits a sound that is supposed to break glass, a Helmholtz resonator on Dawes' desk breaks.
