Taking Woodstock presents a new angle on the true story of the climactic hippie music festival Woodstock that helped define and end the era of the Sixties, highlighting the huge impact new forms of music had on American culture. Taking Woodstock tells the story of the man who accidentally provided the location for Woodstock to happen. The man’s name was Elliot Timber, who is played by Demetri Martin. Elliot lives in Greenwich Village and dreams of becoming a prominent New York City interior designer, but before he can move forward and establish his career, he has to return home for the summer to help his parents save their motel. His parents, Jake and Sonia, own a hotel called the El Monaco located in the Catskills of New York. Their hotel is in shabby condition in drastic need of repairs and with few guests to provide funds for these repairs. Elliot forms a plan to save the hotel when he sees an advertisement in the newspaper about a high-profile concert that was scheduled to take place nearby in Wallkill, New York, but that lost its permit. Elliot plans to repair the hotel to livable conditions and get the permits to hold the concert in a nearby dairy farm pasture in White Lake, New Jersey, all while housing the staff of the Woodstock Ventures and the concert crew at the newly refurbished El Monaco. This is a giant feat that Elliot is basically taking on alone, since his parents aren’t much help. For example, his father’s idea of cleaning the pool is to pour a gallon of laundry bleach in the water. The story for Taking Woodstock has been translated to the screen from the memoir Taking Woodstock: A True Story of a Riot, a Concert, and a Life written by Elliot Timber and Tom Monte. Taking Woodstock was directed by Ang Lee, who also directed the Academy Award-winning films Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

The psychiatrist Dr. Norman Goodman travels from San Diego to the middle of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean to help survivors of a plane crash. Soon he learns that he was actually summoned by Captain Harold C. Barnes to team-up with the biochemistry Dr. Elizabeth 'Beth' Halperin; the mathematician Dr. Harry Adams; and the astrophysical Dr. Ted Fielding to investigate an unknown life form in a spacecraft that crashed two hundred and eighty-eight years ago. The team saturates with helium to travel to a base close to the UFO 1,000 feet below the ocean and operated by the military Alice 'Teeny' Fletcher and Jane Edmunds. Barnes, Norman, Beth, Harry and Ted go to the spaceship and discover that it is terrestrial from the future. Further, the computer indicates an Unknown Entry Event, probably a Black Hole that brought the spaceship to the past. Harry uses logic and concludes that if the crew had never heard anything about their discovery in the present day, they will probably die. But they all are intrigued with a mysterious sphere inside the spacecraft. There is a storm on the surface and the fleet must leave the area, leaving Barnes and his team without communication. Harry sneaks out and enters the sphere and then his manifestations come to life threatening the group. Will they survive the power of the mysterious sphere?
