Toby Tyler

This classic film revolves around a young boy named Toby Tyler …
This classic film revolves around a young boy named Toby Tyler who has a pet chimpanzee named Mr. Stubbs. The movie is set at the beginning of the 20th century. One day Toby decides to run away from home to join a circus because he thinks he is just in the way and that nobody loves him. When he joins the circus, Toby works with a mean-spirited candy and concession worker who tries to drag him down, but Toby is determined to stay positive and do the right thing. Most of the other circus workers are friendly and supportive of Toby, however. When Toby and Mr. Stubbs meet, they warm up to each other right away and are soon inseparable. A highlight of this film is the extensive footage of actual circus life, including circus performances as well as the world behind the scenes. Many real circus acts are shown in Toby Tyler. These include The Flying Viennas, The Jungleland Elephants, The Marquis Family, Harry Johnson and The Ringling Bros. Clowns. Toby and Mr. Stubbs are great friends, and they find themselves in several adventures and hilarious situations while at the circus. Mr. Stubbs is very intelligent and mischievous and keeps everyone at the circus on their toes. There are lots of scenes of Toby training his horse, and there are also numerous scenes of real circus animals performing in this family friendly film. Ultimately Toby goes back home and realizes that his family does love him. Toby Tyler was directed by Charles Barton and has a running time of approximately 100 minutes. The film is 'G' rated and is appropriate for viewers of all ages. The cast members of "Toby Tyler" include Kevin Corcoran, Richard Eastham, Ollie Wallace, James Drury, Barbara Beaird, Bob Sweeney, Edith Evanson and Gene Sheldon.
