The series is set in the modern day and initially focuses on Bea Smith's (Danielle Cormack) early days in prison and her subsequent rise to the top of the prison's hierarchy. Following Cormack's departure from the show at the end of the fourth season, the series shifted its focus onto a more ensemble format.

CrashBurn is an Australian 13-part drama series airing on Network Ten, about surviving long-term relationships in an age where multiple partners and multiple orgasms are considered a birthright. It starred Catherine McClements and Aaron Blabey as Rosie and Ben Harfield, a couple whose marriage troubles send them to a counsellor. Most of the episodes are shown in two parts: half 'He says' (Ben's view of the situation) and half 'She says' (Rosie's view). Most of the episodes used flashbacks to an earlier part of their relationship when the trouble started. Also appearing is the couple, Candice and Richard (played by Liz Burch and Richard Piper), who are also seeking counselling and run into Rosie and Ben's lives. There are numerous problems arising in the course of the series, not least Ben's affair with Rosie's best friend, Abby (Sacha Horler). Although the series was not a huge hit, it was noted for its fine performances (notably Sacha Horler and Catherine McClements).

Paradise Road

Glenn Close, Cate Blanchett, Frances McDormand, and …
Glenn Close, Cate Blanchett, Frances McDormand, and Clyde Kusatsu star in a film based on the experiences of women interned in camps by the Japanese in World War II. Several British, Australian, American, and Dutch women are packed into prison camps by the Japanese in Indonesia after the Japanese invade Singapore. The women overcome an initial dislike of each other and try to maintain morale as conditions in the camp deteriorate, more women die, and there is little to no word of the fate of their husbands. Part of their strategy includes forming a chorus to help them focus on something that does not include death and disease. While the story itself is fictionalized, it is based on memoirs and historical records. Women were separated from their husbands and other family members -- although children often remained with their mothers -- and interned in camps after being marched through the jungle. Many died, and many were left scarred emotionally and physically. Paradise Road attempts to show how women were able to survive such conditions by helping each other. The music sung by the cast includes actual music written by an internee at the camp on which Paradise Road is based; this woman, Margaret Dryburgh, had been a vital link in the chain of activities that gave her and her fellow internees a sense of hope. The film received some criticism for its deletion of massacres that occurred when many of the women were taken captive, though at least one paper noted that including such violence would have given the film a much darker tone than the producers and director wanted. Others tried to claim the film was racist and prejudiced against Japanese people, but survivors of real-life internment camps quickly dispelled that notion. Paradise Road is a dramatic retelling of the story of women placed in extremely dangerous circumstances, where escape seemed an impossible dream, and how they managed to keep going each day.

A young English minister and his wife are asked to stop by an eccentric artist's home on the way through Australia to their new parish. The bishop of Sidney is concerned because the artist is prone to painting naked females, and hopes that he will be persuaded to withdraw a controversial painting from his show which is soon due for exhibition. The clever mined minister is both challenged, and put off at the permissive atmosphere he finds surrounding the painter, perpetuated by the painter's wife's nonchalant attitude, and the three lovely models living and working at his estate. The minister's wife finds herself aroused by the free atmosphere, and both she and her husband discover that they know more about each other, and are better for the visit by its conclusion.
