The Ratings Game is a comedy film about a trucker from New Jersey named Vic who has aspirations of becoming a famous Hollywood movie producer and actor. After numerous failed attempts to gain the attention of network executives, he meets and falls in love with a girl named Francine who works as a statistician in the television ratings business. Together, they collaborate to scam the Nielsen-ratings system in order to create a top-rated hit television show starring Vic. Eventually, the scam is discovered, creating trouble for the scheming couple, but not before Vic is graced with a best new actor award.
