He hires to Stooges, Laura Mason and Doc Mason, Laura's ex-physician-turned-drunk grandfather. O'Brien's first move is to trap the bandits headed by saloon owner Taggart and his henchman Clete by using the Stooges to inform Taggart that O'Brien will escort the gold shipment, but George plans on having the Stooges take the actual shipment in another wagon. His plans backfire when Doc Mason, drunk in Taggart's saloon, accidentally informs Taggart of the real plans.

At a December 7, 1941 Washington cocktail party, Connie Mathew is not amused by the romantic advances of playboy Tommy Aldrich, son of an important Navy consultant. The party is shocked by the news of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and Connie blithely announces she would like to serve Uncle Sam as a new version of Mata Hari. She finds Mr. Fortune waiting for her when she gets home and he introduces himself as a member of the Secret Service and asks her to join his staff. Thinking it is a practical joke by Tommy, she accepts. Fortune tells Connie her first assignment is to get friendly with Tommy, as the government suspects him of selling convoy information that he gets from his father to enemy agents. She does so, falls in love with him and finds out he is 100% loyal. Mr. Fortune takes Connie and Tommy captive. Connie's sister, Agatha, had earlier suspected Mr. Fortune and she was taken prisoner by his Axis spies.

North and Trimble establish the company on the way-out-of-town Bingham farm but are unaware the site contains a hazard...Patience Bingham, the farmer's daughter. Patience falls in love with the company's leading man, Dennis Crane, whom North was relying on to keep temperamental Clarice in line. Despite spending night-after-night going from nightclub-to-nightclub in New York City, playwright Victor Walsh hasn't found a suitable scenario-idea in any of them for a play. Trimble corrals Walsh and brings him to the farm but the quietness and fresh air are keeping the muse away...until Trimble imports some NYC noises and odors. Just as it appears that the show will go on, Clarice has discovered that her sugar-daddy angel has flown off with some new doll, and she deserts the show and goes in pursuit. But North discovers that the farmer's daughter knows the lines. Is a star about to be born?
