Suchindra Bali is a Tamil actor, son of former 1950s and 1960s actress Vyjayanthimala. He has shortened his name to Suchin. His mother is of Tamil origin while his father is a north Indian. He was born in Mumbai, did his schooling in Chennai, moved to Delhi for college and then went to the U.S. for higher studies. He's a law graduate from Columbia University. After completing his studies, he returned to Delhi where he started modelling. Several acting sessions and dance classes later, he entered into Tamil cinema industry. Acting was the last thing on Suchin’s mind, one day his photograph appeared in a Tamil daily and was seen by a producer who came to sign him for a movie. His first movie was Kannodu Kanbathellam, where he shared frames with Arjun Sarja in a guest appearance and his second film was Mugavaree with Ajith Kumar. He also worked with Nana Patekar, his debut Bollywood movie was Aanch, directed by Rajesh Singh.

Amarnath, Gopal and his sister, Mala, are three friends who live in a small village in India. As Mala & Gopal's mom is a widow and is unable to care for both the children, she decides to let her Bombay-based cousin, Shobha R. Sharma, adopt Mala. Gopal is always in trouble with the villagers for petty theft, and when he learns that Mala has left, he too runs away from home. Years later, all three have grown up. Mala's mom is deceased, while she continues to live with her aunt and uncle, Public Prosecutor Ramnath Sharma; Amarnath is now an Advocate working with Senior Advocate Mehta, and is in love with Mala, not knowing that she is his childhood friend; while Gopal has been to prison in Poona, Madras, and the Police in Hyderabad want him for questioning. Soon Amarnath will be defending Gopal, alias Ram Singh, for the murder of one Mohanchand - and it will be an uphill task for Amarnath - for not only do the Police have airtight evidence against Gopal, Mohanchand was to be the future son-in-law of Ramnath - who has sworn to bring Gopal to justice by hook or by crook.

The Prasads live in Banaras circa 19th Century, and consist of Bhawani - a thug, who poses as a holy man, luring devotees and robbing them; his wife - who will have nothing to do with his ill-gotten gains; his son, Shankar - like his mother has distanced himself from crime; Shankar's wife and her three children: Kundan, Yashoda and Gopal. Bhawani forcibly takes Kundan with him to follow in his footsteps and forbids him from seeing the rest of the family. Kundan's childhood friend is Munni, an orphan, who leaves for Calcutta after being reunited with her biological parents. Then there is Bhawani's estranged brother, Naubatlal, and his two sons, Ganeshi and Dwarka. Naubatlal and Bhawani have hated each other, and things only get worse after Shankar gets killed, Bhawani claims that Naubatlal killed him, and has him killed. This causes deep strife within Bhawani's family, and he is left alone with only Kundan. Years later both the Prasad families have grown up - but their hatred has not abated, and both Ganeshi and Dwarka await the next opportunity to kill Bhawani and Kundan. While Kundan has been reunited with Munni - without knowing that she is now known as Laila-E-Aasmaan, the then Courtesan of Nawab Wajid Ali Khan - and who has been recruited by Ganeshi to seduce and kill him. Then Kundan finds out the real killer of his father, not knowing that this knowledge will lead to more strife, deception, lies, a death in the family, and a murder!!
