Welcome to the Della! program guide. Hosted by the multi-talented Della Reese, this was the first talk show hosted by an African-American woman. Divinely delightful, Della along with her sidekick comic Sandy Baron welcomed a wide array of guests to her hour long program with Peter Myers conducting the Orchestra. Lasting only one season the series is a landmark in history.

Omar Khayyam was among the greatest of Persian poets. He was also a brilliant mathematician. Though his quatrains were written in the 11th century, they are still popular the world over. The details of his life are unknown, so this movie invents a biography for him and includes in it his real achievements - the invention of a new calendar and the penning of those epigrammatic poems. This film has him losing the love of his life to his ruler, and foiling an assassin sect's plot to kill that ruler, the empire's shah.

Climax! (later known as Climax Mystery Theater) is an American television anthology series that aired on CBS from 1954 to 1958. The series was hosted by William Lundigan and later co-hosted by Mary Costa. It was one of the few CBS programs of that era to be broadcast in color (using the massive TK-40A color cameras pioneered and manufactured by RCA, and used primarily by CBS' arch-rival network, NBC). Many of the episodes were performed and broadcast live, and although the series was transmitted in color, only black-and-white kinescope copies of some episodes survive to the present day. The series finished at #22 in the Nielsen ratings for the 1955-1956 season and #26 for 1956-1957.

Secret of the Incas

An Inca legend says the Inca Empire was destroyed by the …
An Inca legend says the Inca Empire was destroyed by the gods when a gold and jeweled star burst was stolen from the Temple of the Sun centuries ago, and the ancient civilization will spring anew when the treasure is returned. The natives want it but so does Harry Steele, an American adventurer of slightly-shady ways who wants it for personal gain, as does his adversary, a grizzled old man even more into skulduggery than Steele. The latter teams up with Elena Antonescu, an Iron Curtain refugee fleeing from the MKVD. She can help him get a plane and he can help her escape Peru for the relative safety of Mexico. Is there a chance they will end up in a bickering love-hate relationship?... Is there a chance an American archaeologist, Dr. Stanley Moorehead, will come along as one corner of a romantic triangle?... Is there a chance that Yma Sumac (billed third on the posters and ads and special billed in the film), who can't act but can sing, will sing a few songs?... Is there a chance that these trite-sounding questions will develop into a film that is far from trite and vastly entertaining? Dang right, there is. Check it out.

The hosts on this interview program chatted with celebrities, politicians and regular Americans with interesting lives. People who had overcome some sort of adversity or faced a challenge were often featured. We, The People began on radio in 1936 and continued to be heard there; this was the first series to be simulcast on television and radio. (This simulcast situation continued through the summer of 1950.) The original host was voice-over announcer Dwight Weist before actor Dan Seymour took over the job in 1949. The information here has been gleaned from magazines and newspapers of the era, as well as the personal papers of the show's director, Preston Wood.
