I would encourage any train enthusiasts to visit this museum. They also have other transportation related exhibits that are worth seeing. Enjoy!
Do people wear pajamas on the trip to get into the spirit of it?

Yes many adults wear pajamas. The one recommendation is good walkng shoes. You will get off the train to visit Santa and there are large stones to walk on.
What is the cost for people over 65 I am 77 and my wife is 72 and can you use a handy cap scooter to get around I have a problem walking and standing I would like to visit but have a very limited income, we were there ten years ago and at that time it was free but I understand there is a charge now,

There is a charge. If you want to do the museum only Senior admission is 5 dollars. Museum Admission and the train ride is 10 dollars for seniors. Hope this answer helps
