Nice zoo. We liked it better than the San Diego zoo. Cool western village and nice animal exhibits. The reptile and bird enclosures should be larger than they are is my only complaint. Full review by Vacation15371

One of the Top Zoos in the Us
The zoo was established in 1909 with a handful of animals, the number of which at present counts to more than 5000. It has been rated as one of the top zoos in the US. At present you have a lot to see over here- Penguins- This area has a colony of African black- footed penguins and there is also an underwater viewing zone out here. World of Primates- This was opened in 1992 and includes both indoor and outdoor exhibits. The atrium here is a tropical rainforest where you will see chimpanzees, colobus monkeys as well as a gorilla group. After this as you proceed there is a broad way with orangutans, gibbons, etc. Asian Falls- This also opened in 1992 and has the elephant complex and also the boardwalk here provides a perfect view of the rhinos of the zoo. You will also be able to get a lovely view of the white and Malayan tigers and hyenas from here. Cheetahs- This place was added in 1994 and has an enclosure of cheetahs along with that of warthogs and bongos. Flamingo Bay- This place is home to a number of flamingoes from all around the world. It is a sight to behold when they fly in patterns. Great Barrier Reef- Inspired from Australia, this place features a replica of the Great Barrier Reef and was home to Wallabies and red kangaroos. At present, it also features clownfish, black tip sharks, angel reef, brain corals, moray eels, sea apples, etc. African Savannah- Keeping the authenticity, this is home to rhinos, giraffes and ostriches. Parrot Paradise- This is a free flight aviary featuring parakeets and cockatiels. Texas Wild!- This place was an addition of 2001 and features native animals that make Texas proud. These include swift foxes, ferrets, burrowing owls, etc. Museum of Living Art- This is a beautiful and newly renovated herpetarium with many rare species of animals such as a Burmese python, Fly River Turtles, golden lion tamarins, Chinese Giant Salamander, dragons, etc. The zoo also has an unusual Texas size sculpture as well.
