Being in the middle of the city, this was a fairly expansive zoo and the animals were very active while we were there with the sunny and 60 degree weather. Glad we visited! Full review by Rftstar

Set on 55 acres in Hermann Park, the Houston Zoo is one of the city's star attractions, popular with locals and visitors. The zoo is home to more than 6,000 exotic and indigenous animals and contains an education center and children's zoo. Some of the highlights include feeding the giraffes, seeing marine life up close in the aquarium, and watching sea lions and otters frolicking about. Other attractions in Hermann Park are the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, a Japanese Garden, and the Pioneer Memorial Log House Museum. A Spectacle of Lights and Sounds
Every evening during the holiday season, the Houston Zoo turns into a spectacle of lights and sounds. The park's trees and pathways are lit with 15 miles of lights and lighted animal sculptures, often set to the rhythm of holiday music playing throughout the park. The display runs from November 23, 2019 to January 12, 2020 and is closed on December 24 and 25. Ticket prices vary, depending on how much traffic is anticipated and are separate from standard general admission tickets. If you've never experienced the Houston Zoo at night, it's a fun family or date night activity to try at least once. New this year is a hundred-foot-long Infinity Tunnel of Light and 4-D Enchanted Forest with a life-like Ice Dragon.
