Newport Pier is located just south of Huntington Beach at the center of the Balboa Peninsula. Balboa Pier, the more crowded pier of Newport Beach, is nearby to the south. Thanks to the awesome weather of Southern California, there’s no reason this beach can’t be enjoyed all year long, which means the potential for stunning sunsets on the daily.Parking at the beach can be found in the nearby residential areas and there are plenty of metered parking spots as well. However, be sure to check when street sweeping is because parking can be more sparse on those days.One of my favorite things to do in Newport is spending the day chillin’ at the beach followed by photographing the sunset. You never know when you’ll catch that epic sunset, but when the clouds come rolling in, you know it’s gonna be a good one. Worst case scenario, you just spent a day relaxing at the beach. Catching a nice reflection of the pier on the water and shooting under the pier are a few of my fave shots. A neutral density filter will also help if you want that smooth water look. After the sun sets take a stroll along the boardwalk to grab a bite to eat at one of the many bars and restaurants in the area.

Newport Beach offers fine, soft sand with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy yourself. Surfers, swimmers and sunbathers all bask in the warmth of beautiful Southern California winter and summer days. Pelicans and seagulls also enjoy Southern California's year round Mediterranean climate. Near the base of the Newport Pier is the Dory Fishing Fleet, founded in 1891. The pier offers stunning views to the north toward Huntington Beach, and looking south, you can see another structure, the Balboa Pier. This five-mile stretch of beach boasts a bevy of activities. Swimmers and sunbathers flock to the beach in summer and winter, capping off their day in the sun with a night of casual or fine dining. Skate, bike and board rentals are popular, and surfing off the jetty is prime. The vibe at the Balboa Peninsula is youthful and fun.

The Newport Pier is one of two piers located within the city of Newport Beach, California, at the center of the Balboa Peninsula. It is 1,032 feet long and registered as California Historical Landmark number 794. Located at Oceanfront Boulevard and 21st Place, it is popular for angling, strolling and dining. At the end of the pier sits a restaurant called the "Newport Pier Grill and Sushi." The restaurant has an outdoor patio called the William Wright Terrace which adds 288 square feet and can seat up to 28 with a view of the water. At the base of the pier is the Dory Fishing Fleet, a beachside fishing cooperative founded in 1891. Also at the base of the pier is the headquarters of the city fire department's Lifeguard division. The original wharf at this site was called McFadden Wharf, named for local landowners James and Robert McFadden. It was completed in the winter of 1888-1889, then connected by railroad to the interior in the winter of 1890-1891. It served as a shipping and distribution point for Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties until 1907 and provided the nucleus from which developed the city of Newport Beach.

The pier is 314.5 meters long and is currently a California Heritage Landmark. You can find a fleet of Dory boats docked here by the Dory fishermen after a long day of fishing. Angling is a favoured activity at the pier and you can often see locals with a fishing rod waiting to catch some fresh fish. The pier also has a program for training lifeguards. At the end of the pier is the famous Newport Pier Grill and Sushi restaurant that has an outdoor patio and is perfect for a romantic dinner with you love ones. The view of the sunset is breath-taking and along with the laid back atmosphere of the place and the tranquil views, you are lost in simpler times.
