I would definitely exercise caution when taking a child there. It is not dangerous but rather tricky and certain areas could be slippery. If the child isn’t very independent or still depends on you for guidance to walk, I’d say he/she is too young. Hope this helps!

I agree with the others. On the trail part of the West Summit trail, you'd be fine, but after marker 9 or so, you have to cross large boulders which are really slick when wet. You'd be better …

I agree with the others. On the trail part of the West Summit trail, you'd be fine, but after marker 9 or so, you have to cross large boulders which are really slick when wet. You'd be better off hiking one of the other wonderful trails. The Rocky Valley/East Quarry trail will get you to a beautiful vista without having to traverse such slick boulders - definitely a safer choice. If you don't need a vista as your goal, then hike the base trail around the mountain.
