Visiting Sitka was wonderful. you could walk to everything. We had a relaxing day walking to the NHP and within the City. Nice to get off the cruise ship and walk around. Full review by terryz573

Sitka National Historical Park is also a museum with random historic totem poles of the Tlingit people along the forest path. We were on a private tour but you can easily do this in your own. The p… Full review by Storyteller199062

After departing our cruise ships, this wonderful park was our first stop. The visitor center had informative displays and the rainforest was a peaceful retreat from the hoards of cruise passengers vi… Full review by Sue S

Questions & answers

Q:
How did you get to and from the cruise terminal? Is there much to do close to the terminal if we dont pay for an excursion?
A:
Your cruise line probably operates a free shuttle into town. You don't need to have booked an excursion in order to ride this free shuttle -- at least we didn't.
Q:
What is the admission to enter the national historic park trails?
A:
don't know--went as part of a group but doubt it is very much. You could probably find it on their website
Q:
How do i get there from the port

I agree with folks - - walk! When you walk from the ship dock "downtown" you can get the feel of beautiful Sitka. It is only about a 10-15 walk and you can relax and take your time and get distracted with looking at other things. The Russian Bishop's house is right along the way and don't miss the Sitka Rose soap shop next to it. Beautiful locally made soap that are a wonderful treat to take home with you! Yes - - walk, relax, breathe the beautiful clean air. And even if it is raining - - -that feels beautiful too! Why get stuck in a tour bus with steamy windows and other people so close? That is not my idea of seeing and feeling a place! One exception . . .. if you come in on a ship and you dock out near the ferry terminal on Halibut Point Road - - then you will need to take the bus into town and then walk from there. Sitka now has two deep water ship cruise docks - one right in town and the other one "out the road" near the Ferry terminal. Prepare to enjoy yourself, breathe clean air, see this beautiful place and please take time to get away from the crowds of fellow crusie shipmates and get out from town a little ways and see the trees, deep moss and old, old trees. There are many trails to hike too, bikes to rent and kayaks to paddle!
