Review If you're a mountain biker, you should definitely get out to West Rock Ridge State Park. Go to where the boat launch is at Lake Wintergreen. Park in that dusty parking lot and head out from there. Go left right away down the fire road all the way to the dam. Just past there you will hike a bike up some big steep rocks and at the top get back on and keep riding! The road winds all the way around the lake. Where the road crosses another fire road near the concrete bridge head straight across. This is the White trail. Don't be afraid to take some of the left hand cut offs; they all swing back down to the trail for the most part. Soon you will get to a set of 3 bridges that are fun. Step off and pay the penalty, a shoe full of muck. Soon after you will end up on the fire road again. Go right to get back to the lot. Total for that loop is just under an hour. Go left, cross the street and bomb the singletrack on the other side for serious fun. The faster you whip through those corners, the more you will enjoy that trail. That goes out to another road near a small farm, but go back the way you came. Cross the road again where you did the first time, and hammer out some fire road riding on the way back to the lot.This is just one of the many loops to explore. Very family friendly and pet friendly and something for all skill levels.

The West Rock Ridge State Park near Hamden, Connecticut is a public park and recreation area. The park spans across the towns of Hamden, Woodbridge, and New Haven. The state park gets its name from the West Rock Ridge, a trap rock measuring four hundred to seven hundred feet. West Rock Ridge is a part of the area’s Metacomet Ridge that extends from the Long Island Sound all the way to the border of Vermont. The park features west-facing open cliffs spanning across seven miles and offering vistas that encompass the metropolitan area of New Haven and the surrounding suburban towns.

West Rock Ridge State Park is a state park located in New Haven, Hamden, and Woodbridge, Connecticut. It is named for the trap rock West Rock Ridge, which is part of the Metacomet Ridge extending from Long Island Sound to the Vermont border. The ridge consists largely of diabase, much like its sister formation East Rock. The park offers recreational trails, car-top boating, and of open west-facing cliffs with vistas encompassing Metropolitan New Haven and suburban towns to the west. The park includes Judges Cave, a colonial era historic site; Lake Wintergreen; and the Regicides Trail, part of the Connecticut Forest and Park Association's Blue Trail system. West Rock Ridge State Park is part of a larger area of protected open space including state, municipal, and non-profit owned land.

This trail splits from the Red Trail and stays on a small dike and crosses a small dam with a bridge. It then continues into a forest of primarily pine trees. It is here where you'll traverse exposed roots and rocks. These features are slightly inconvenient, but really just add some interest to this short trail. In addition to the interesting terrain, it includes wonderful views of the lake. The trail ends where the Red Trail and White Trail converge.

This state park, like its sister East Rock Park, offers a spectacular overview of the city of New Haven and its environs. The park is the creation of a more tumultuous time, a ridge of basalt rock forced skyward by volcanic action about 200 million years ago. The 1,500-acre park is located at the apex, where visitors can enjoy miles of hiking trails, picnic areas and a fishing pond. The infamous Judges Cave is located here, where, in 1660, Edward Whalley, John Dixwell and William Goffe eluded capture by royal bounty hunters. The three men had been among the signers of the death warrant against England's King Charles. Opens daily at 8am.
