Upon Brookhaven's cityhood in December 2012, Mableton became the largest unincorporated CDP in Metro Atlanta. On November 8, 2022, following the 2022 midterm elections, a referendum on cityhood was passed. It is set to become the largest city in Cobb County in terms of population.
