Such a cool unique trail! We loved it, made it to the top with our 5&6yo. It’s tough and I’d recommend starting as early as possible but so worth it when you finish! Full review by mikeflood7

Not so much of a trail as a slog up a hill that you keep sliding down. The wind gets pretty wicked as you scale upward which exfoliates all exposed skin. Full review by Thomas T

It does tires you, very tiring. You have to get a lot of hydrating liquid with you to visit this place. Full review by Ca-rel1n

Rent boards for $20 at the Oasis just before you get to the park.

In mid-June, we will spend a half day at Mesa Verde NP then be traveling to Colorado Springs. Is it worth a short stop at Great Sand Dunes NP? Is there a "quick and easy way" to get to sled down the dunes? (If so, where do you go and how do you get sleds?) My kids would love this but we are on a tight schedule and don't know if there is a way to make it work. Thanks for any input. :)

I was there in mid-June last year, and the Medano Creek was still flowing. If you intend to spend any time at the creek, bring plenty of bug spray! The mosquitoes are vicious. I wouldn't recommend using cardboard or something intended for snow. In June, the rental place (Oasis Store) will be open. That's THE place for sand sleds, and it's located on the road that leads to the park (very convenient for pick-up & drop-off). You can get to the lower dunes pretty quickly/easily, but the fun is really to be had on the higher dunes where you can build up some speed. Do it before noon so you don't burn yourselves.
