The Ouachita National Forest is a vast congressionally-designated National Forest that lies in the western portion of Arkansas and portions of extreme-eastern Oklahoma.
Driving south from Mount Magazine State Park toward Hot Springs, we enjoyed the scenery of the Ouachita National Forest. The visitor center south of Mount Magazine was very welcoming. Full review by Raintree_Thailand

This place is absolutely beautiful. There are trails, scenic overlooks, lakes, and campgrounds. Most of the roads are narrow and winding, so be careful. Full review by jww002

We're stopping off at Ouachita National Forest on our drive from Dallas to Kansas City in late June. We'll have a 3 month old with us. One possible route is 88 to 280 to 71. Not sure of the route but I recommend LAKE OUACHITA STATE PARK
How is the park affected by the government shutdown? Facilities, admission, etc. TIA

The tower referenced on a prior response is in Hot Springs NP. Some of the water filling stations are closed (Whittington Ave and Happy Hollow). Also the Fordyce Victors Center in HSNP is closed. As far as the ONF goes, I just drove past the Charlton Rec Area, it is closed. The ONF trails are open. ☺
