Low temps can still be around freezing at 6 AM. It is cool, but hiking quickly warms you up, unless you go on the mountain. Plus, the dry air never feels as cool as the temperature, unless there are high winds. Just do an internet search for "hiking trails near flagstaff Arizona" and you will find enough to keep you going. We enjoyed the Red Mountain Trail about 20 miles out of town, also, there are many beautiful places in the Sunset Crater National Park. But, you are so close to the Grand Canyon & Sedona, where there are more spectacular hikes to be found.
