"near by" is relative in that area of New Mexico. It's a remote, rural area, and the falls themselves are not near by anything, in the way you might think of proximity in a city. The closest restaurants (and everything else) can be found in Carlsbad, about 40 miles from the falls. for great mexican food, try Rojas Restaurant on San Jose Blvd. Always stop there when I'm passing through town. Local favotite, unpretentious, been there forever, and excellent food. Enjoy!

Sitting Bull Falls I believe is still closed. Right outside the main gate as you proceed through the mountains to the picnic area and viewing area there is a place to park and camp there. Just be aware that there is no cell service as this is a very remote area.
