COLUMN: Triticale a grazing option for area producers

Trends in cover crops and soil health come and go, but alternative small grains such as triticale, oats and rye have been mainstays in Oklahoma forage production in recent years. Due to continued local interest, I collaborated with a local producer to organize a small grains forage demonstration plot this fall.

WESTVILLE – A parade full of kids and floats, a car show, a queen to crown, and lots of good food and arts and craft vendors made the celebration for the 26th annual Loyalty Day last Saturday, May 7, one of the best in Westville history.

TAHLEQUAH TAILS: City opens dog park, paid for by private donors

Heather Torrento, left, and Ward 1 Councilor Bree Long attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Tahlequah Tails dog park and handed out dog treats to attendees. Tahlequah Tails is open from dawn to dusk. Dog owners are responsible for attending to their dogs while at the park. Daryl Rhodes and his dog Alee attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Tahlequah Tails.

Letter carriers to collect food donations Saturday

The National Association of Letter Carriers’ 2019 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday. (Photo provided) Letter carriers in Garfield County will collect nonperishable food donations from homes on their routes this Saturday as part of a longtime food drive. The National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive returns after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and donations collected in Garfield County will stay local and benefit Regional Food Bank partners Department of Human Services, Emerson Middle School Pantry, Enid High School Pantry, Lincoln Academy Pantry, Loaves & Fishes of Northwest Oklahoma Food & Resource Center, Longfellow Middle School Pantry, North Garland Church of Christ, Shepherd’s Cupboard, Salvation Army of Enid and Waller Middle School Pantry.
