Two Rivers Giving Circle honors Jefferson County Museum Director

Giving Circle member Linda Case, left, presents an award to Jane Rissler. They are standing in front of a historic flag that was conserved for the Jefferson County Museum's collection with help from a Two Rivers Giving Circle grant. The flag is from Charles Town's Green-Copeland American Legion Post 63, founded in 1929 by local African Americans who had served in World War I.

Did you like The Plum? Try a fresh take at District Provision & Supply Co.

Despite — or maybe because of — its out-of-the-way location, The Plum was for years a popular lunch destination for downtown Hagerstown workers and others. Everybody seemed to have a "usual" sandwich or salad; some even had a favorite table. It started life as Ann's Plum in the mid-1980s. Ned and Sarah Ardinger owned the restaurant from 1990 until last year.

Breathtaking Frescoes of Goddesses Nekhbet and Wadjet Uncovered in Egypt

These vibrantly colored ceiling frescoes were discovered by German and Egyptian scholars in the Temple of Khnum in Esna, Upper Egypt. Professor Christian Leitz from the University of Tübingen says that the reliefs in the middle of the ceiling show 46 images of the Upper-Egyptian vulture goddess Nekhbet and the Lower-Egyptian snake goddess Wadjet.

From Spanish Harlem to Food Network champion: NJ pastry chef wins baking show

Jaleesa Mason couldn't believe bread could be so good. Growing up in Spanish Harlem with a single mom, Mason had never tasted fresh bread. Nor for that matter creme brulee, pastry cream, meringue, truffles or bonbons. But there she was, a bakery and pastry arts student at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, eating her first fresh olive roll.
