Clio Fountain vandalized, Parks Department looking for tips

Over the weekend, someone vandalized the Clio Fountain by pouring Kool Aid or a purple dye into it. The Clio Fountain was just recently completed and repaired. If anyone has any information on this case, please contact Parks Superintendent Katherine Good or her office at 765-825-5244. Park team member Randall Parrett spent 7 hours cleaning the fountain and there are still stains.

Champions of the Month: Creech, Reynolds honored for efforts at their downtown eatery

Rachel Creech and Terri Reynolds, named June’s Champions of the Month by the city officials, pose for a picture outside of their downtown restaurant. Over the past several years, a daughter and mother who played an instrumental part in re-energizing downtown Marion have become Champions for hard work, both in and outside of the kitchen, to help the community.

Holland: Take a walk in the park

Beckenholdt Park, within the Greenfield parks department, is located just north of the city and includes walking trails and nature. Summer is in full swing! That is quite evident as the roadways are full despite $5+ per gallon of gas. Americans have tired of staying at home. This summer we are ready to break out and go.

Recipes with Rhonda: Deer Hunters Cake

Pecans originated in the 1500s and were named by Native Americans according to U.S. Pecans. Pecans were first grown/planted in the 1700s for distribution and the U.S. is still the largest producer and distributer of pecans in the world. Pecans were first called: “pacanes” by the Algonquin tribe meaning “nuts requiring a stone to crack.”

Recipes with Rhonda: Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

I love farmer’s markets! I found both fresh strawberries and rhubarb this weekend at our local farmer’s market and thought I’d bake a pie using these fresh from the patch ingredients. Rhubarb is a weird vegetable or fruit for sure. The U.S. Custom’s Court classified rhubarb a fruit in 1947 but botanically a vegetable has leaves, stalks and roots so classifying rhubarb is confusing.
