Smithfield Packaged Meats has recalled some pre-cooked crumbled bacon topping because it may be contaminated with metal. Smithfield Packaged Meats Corp. has recalled about 185,610 pounds of crumbled bacon topping because it may be contaminated with metal. The cooked bacon was produced between Feb. 21 and March 5, 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

TIVERTON — After last week, the town's police officers must be feeling stuffed. Both with food and appreciation. With the week of May 15 serving as National Police Week, restaurants around town showed their love for the men in blue by supplying a copious amount of food to the Police Department. The show of appreciation started Monday, when Groundswell Cafe, Bakery, Home and Garden reached out to the department and asked if it could provide a breakfast of baked goods and coffee for the midnight to 8 a.m. shift.

It was sold at retailers nationwide, including Sam's Club. Some of the biggest bacon brands at each grocery store include Oscar Meyer, Hormel, Hatfield, Smithfield, and more. They're responsible for much of the supply that has fluctuated in price and quantity for the last few years, and unfortunately, one company is facing another setback.

New Bedford Police are investigating the alleged assault of a convenience store clerk early Sunday morning in the city's South End. According to New Bedford Police spokesperson Lt. Scott Carola, South End patrol units responded at about 3 a.m. this morning to the 7-Eleven on Cove Road in response to a clerk who had been assaulted.
