A New Neighborhood Sushi Spot Led by a Veteran Chicago Chef Opens in Lincoln Park

Sushi Hall, a new sushi restaurant in Lincoln Park, opened this week, finalizing the transformation of a vacant storefront tavern into a cozy and contemporary neighborhood retreat. Tucked inside a 150-year-old building at 2630 N. Clark Street, Sushi Hall aims to offer Lincoln Park residents a middle ground between Chicago’s array of ultra-casual all-you-can-eat sushi spots and splashy, spendy omakase dens.

Recipe for success: how The Bear captures the drama of a restaurant

Jeremy Allen White, Lionel Boyce and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. T he Bear, FX on Hulu’s gripping new series on the relentless strain of running a small restaurant, is grounded in two claustrophobic environments: the cramped kitchen of the Original Beef of Chicagoland, a beleaguered and beloved sandwich joint in Chicago, and the frenetic, viselike anxiety of a deadline.

Emerging Chicago restaurants to watch

These 3 brands are making their marks on the Chicago food scene In the last decade or so, Chicago — one of the best food cities in the U.S. and the unofficial capital of the Midwest — has seen a food renaissance. Chefs especially have been leaving their mark on the food scene, both with traditional menu items and innovative takes on classics.

Vintage Chicago Tribune recipe: Tomato Spice Cake for summer menu (June 19, 1935)

This story originally ran in the Chicago Tribune on June 19, 1935. Nothing like a good spice cake. Come summer, for hurriedly planned picnics and emergency refreshments. Better than any other cake. It keeps moist and fresh — a quality which endears it to far seeing hostesses “who like to have something around the house.”

Local guide to the best salads in Chicago

Goi ga Vietnamese chicken salad from Cafe Hoang in Chicago. Photo: Monica Eng/Axios We recently argued over our favorite salads. Justin went with elote salad from a Farmer's Fridge vending machine. "Neither vegan nor especially healthy, but Malnati's salad is my guilty pleasure, even without pizza (a double treat).

I tried iced black coffee at 3 fast-food chains, and there's only one I'd buy again

I tried iced coffee from three fast-food chains. I ordered iced black coffees from fast-food chains Wendy's, Burger King, and McDonald's. I wouldn't order iced coffee from Wendy's or Burger King again because I didn't like the flavor. McDonald's was my favorite of the bunch — it tasted like it was from an actual coffee shop.
