I read in one of the reviews that the gate to the park is not open from 12-2. Is that currently the case or was that just a temporary situation. We will be visiting mid April.

I was camping there in October and did not have any issues with the gate times or having to use the pass code they have me as an overnight camper. I went through the TA reviews and did find one from October 5th, 2020 that said there were certain times the gate was closed during the day, they posted some pictures. This might have been due to some construction or road work at the park or maybe at the beginning of the problems with Covid. I do know that almost all of the Texas state parks now require a timed entry reservation due to overcrowding, especially the more popular parks and at peak seasons like summer for swimming at Garner or for fall colors at Lost Maples. I checked the park website and they list the times for the gate being open as 8am to 10 pm which was how it was when we were there last fall. I would suggest calling the park directly for clarification. Their number is 830-868-7304. Hope it all works out for you, it's a beautiful place to go!
Where is the closest place to rent tubes and kayaks?

You can't swim, walk, or play on the falls--that was the case everytime we have bee there. You can rent tubes on the Guadlupe River to the south, down 281.
