There are opportunities for both driving and hiking. The driving route (one-way) is the primary loop road, and there a few places to park and get out of the car to see things. When I was there, I didn't have a car, so walked mostly in and around the arboretum on the paved roadway. Worked for me. Try searching on Google Maps and you can see the loop road.
