Hi Jackie, Sorry for the slow response. A safari in Pendjari is very affordable. I'd even guess that it's the cheapest African safari you can find. That being said, it's not something that can be booked through traditional North American channels. Also a trip to Pendjari is not for the faint of heart... it's very rustic travel, to say the least. Don't expect resort-like treatment... or even electricity all the time. As far as I know the best way to get to Pendjari is by flying into Cotonou and taking the bus up to Natitingou or Tangueita. The bus ride will take you quite a while (I'd guess 12+ hours). After you arrive to Nati or Tangueita, you'll still have a few hour drive to get to the prime animal viewing areas of the park. We traveled overland from the coast over the course of a couple weeks. We hired car and driver most of the way so I'm not overly knowledgeable about the bus, sorry. We did take the bus from Abomey to Natitingou, but that was the only stretch we took. It was a fairly comfortable ride. We stayed a few days in Natitingou and while we were there we found a safari guide. We hired him to take us to the park in his 4x4. We agreed on 65,000 CFA/day which roughly amounted to $110 USD/day. I could probably find his contact info if you'd like. Also you pretty much have to stay in the park during your safari days. There are two options in the park: The lodge and the hotel. We stayed at the hotel (Check out my review of the hotel for more details.) To be honest, I could go on and on about this... We documented everything on our blog if you'd like more in-depth info. TripAdvisor doesn't allow links so you'll have to go find it at: where is the world (no spaces) and then a dot and then a com. ....sorry the system makes me write it very cryptically..... There's detailed info on park fees, the hotel, dining, animals, poaching in the park, etc, etc there. On that page theres also a YouTube video uploaded from our West African safaris.
