It was a very cold and windy day, so we drove around to see the animals. Most were out, except for the black bears who stayed snugly in their den. Even the moose stayed in their enclosures. There w… Full review by castlesara2010

My wife and i really appreciate that all these animals are "rescues." I like how we could drive around campus and visit the various animal enclosures. They have a really nice gift shop too. Full review by M28ATlm

Great experience and very friendly staff. Beautiful place seen it on Dr. Oakley Yukon Vet and the drive and scenery were well worth going! Loved the animals and the mountains are a great photo op! Full review by SondraR26

You can drive it or you can walk. We walked parts of it. We were part of a tour so the van dropped us at one spot and picked us up at the entrance/exit. I also saw cars just driving through the loop. If driving you could stop to get out and take pictures. The center is home to many animals (bison, musk ox, deer, etc.) The loop takes you by their enclosures.

If I take the train to the Whittier cruise terminal, is there any way to get to the Center for a visit? Rental cars are sold out from Anchorage and from Whittier and I was trying to avoid taking a shuttle bus from Anchorage, even though I know many include a stop at the Center. Thanks for any suggestions!

My Princess Cruise ship left from Whittier on a Saturday evening. I arrived in Anchorage the day before in the early evening. The next day took the ACT bus, my hotel was the third pick up spot at 12:45 -the bus makes lots of pick ups in the city. Other Pick ups were done by about 1:30 and we we on our way. The bus was very comfortable and our guide/driver was fantastic. I learned so much about the areas we traveled through. Our stop at AWCC was for about 50 minutes, 3-3:50. Timing is important because of the tunnel schedule. The bus fare was about $60 and every reasonable for the trip and visit to the AWCC.

Because I visited it in the wintertime, only 2 more cars were there. I would say, the best to visit (in the spring/summer time is in the morning around or before 10am. I’m sure the cruise ship transfer/tours are coming on the way from Whittier or Seward and then it’ll be crowded. Just to see the bears is beautiful.
