Part of the grounds are Texas native wild flowers. Perhaps you visited when the plants are allowed to go to seed and look brown, dried and awful.

For the most part, yes. A few displays may be "boring" for small children. There is a separate display area designed for children. Best to avoid the area concerning 9-11. A few photos may be too intense but this is a small section. Lastly, most people of all ages love the reproduction of the oval office of the President.
