One injured in overnight shooting in Jackson

One man was injured during a shooting around 12:15 a.m., Sept. 20.

JACKSON, MI – One man was shot in the upper torso in Jackson early Friday morning, Jackson Police and Fire Director Elmer Hitt said.

The 20-year-old man was seen walking near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Mitchell Street while officers were responding to calls of shots fired, around 12:16 a.m., Sept. 20, Hitt said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Henry Ford Allegiance Health for injuries that were not life-threatening, Hitt said.

Police believe the shooting occurred near Ridgeway Street and S. Milwaukee Street, Hitt said.

The victim appears to have been a passenger in a vehicle driving in the area when at least one person started shooting at them, Hitt said.

The 20-year-old driver was uninjured, Hitt said.

No arrests have been made, he said.
