A newborn boy was found dead in a garbage can in a Queens playground Saturday.
A woman passing by who smelled a foul odor found the baby’s corpse in a trash can on a basketball court in Dutch Kills Playground near 36th Ave. and Crescent St. in Astoria about 10:45 a.m., cops said.
The boy’s umbilical cord was still attached, police sources said.
“That’s terrible!” said Andy Hu, the cashier at a 99-cent store across the street from the park.
“When I came in I saw an ambulance and police cars.”
Cops are trying to determine if the baby was stillborn or died after his birth.
They city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how the baby died.
