Acton-Boxborough girls lacrosse opens MIAA tournament with 16-11 win over Algonquin

The Acton-Boxborough girls lacrosse team opened the MIAA tournament on Tuesday with a win over Algonquin 16-11 on A-B’s Leary Field.

A-B, the No. 12 seed, took a quick lead against a fast, athletic Algonquin team. At the half, A-B led 10-5.

A-B’s offense was led by Keira Baglio and Caroline McBride, each netting five goals, Claire Kearney with four goals and Alexis Thermidor with two.  

Baglio and Thermidor each tallied eight draw controls which sparked A-B’s offensive transition.

A-B’s defense of Kailah Greenberg, Taylor Lammey, Cat Holtz and Meghan Lawson was tenacious and able to stop Algonquin’s quick attack from getting to the goal.

Goalie Brooke Lynett was outstanding, coming up with critical saves time after time keeping the momentum for A-B. Lynett finished with 19 saves.

Acton-Boxborough will play No. 5 Central Catholic in Lawrence on Saturday at 11 a.m.
