Another candidate has thrown their hat in the ring for a West Des Moines City Council seat.

Erin Cubit, the director of government relations at the Iowa Hospital Association, announced her campaign for the council's second ward seat on Wednesday.

The seat is currently held by John Mickelson, who announced last week he would not be seeking reelection.

Cubit said voices from the community must be represented in all policy enacted by the city and the council should evolve to reflect the community.

"West Des Moines is an incredible place to live and grow," Cubit said in a release. "I want to ensure our community continues to support one another and is opening and welcoming to all."

Cubit has been in the health care field her entire career, the release states. Along with her position at the IHA, she also serves on the EyesOpenIowa Board of Directors as the vice chair and on the Des Moines chapter of New Leaders Council, the release said.

"I am thrilled for the opportunity to represent the residents of West Des Moines on the City Council and I look forward to earning my community's support," Cubit said.

Matt McKinney, an attorney, and Ryan Crane, a nonprofit leader, both announced their city council campaigns earlier this month. Both McKinney and Crane are seeking one of the council's at-large seats, currently held by longtime council member James Sandager, who also announced he would not be seeking reelection.

Election Day is Nov. 5.
