Surprise police are investigating the drowning of a 3-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in a pool Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Barry Bre’dell, a department spokesperson, said an adult at a home near 159th Drive and Monte Cristo Avenue called 911 around 1:50 p.m. and said that they had discovered the girl. Bre'dell said someone performed life-saving measures on the girl until first responders with the Surprise Fire Department took over.

The girl, who remains unidentified, was taken to a hospital where she was ultimately pronounced dead.

Bre’dell said detectives are still investigating how the drowning occurred and are still interviewing all the parties involved.

Bre'dell asked that anyone with information about the drowning call Surprise police at either (623) 222-4000, 623-222-TIPS (8477) or e-mailing crimetips@surpriseaz.gov.
