Del Webb, a pioneering developer of patio ranch communities in Colorado and out in the desert states, has a fall getaway idea that could have you living in warmer surroundings by the time the snow flies in Denver.

For $130, you can stay two nights in Mesquite, Nev., and experience Sun City Mesquite’s lifestyle and some large, single-family ranches that are ready for move-in now.

Mesquite is such a popular destination for people downsizing from older homes in Colorado and California that inventory ranches ready for move-in right away are a rarity. But coming into fall, Del Webb has a few of those, and they’ve been marked down substantially to get you serious about exploring a move.

The way to do that is with an “Explore Del Webb” special — a two-night stay at a hotel close to Mesquite’s casino scene, for just $130. You’ll get full use of Sun City residents’ lineup of community amenities, including clubs, pools, fitness facilities and classes, and you’ll be treated to lunch at the clubhouse with a resident “ambassador” who can tell you about the lifestyle and the costs of living here vs. the Mile High City.

One of the ranch models you’ll visit is a Journey design that has over 2,500 square feet of finished area, two bedrooms plus a den and an extra-wide two-car garage.

If you like its looks, you’ll find that Del Webb has one like it ready for move-in soon, with its included options discounted 30% to reduce its price from $462,872 to $434,107.

“The Journey is my favorite,” says Del Webb’s Annette Forgie. “It has its great room and entertaining areas very open to the kitchen. There’s a dining room shown, but I would be using that as a separate media area.”

The buyer of that ranch will be close to Conestoga Golf Club, one of six scenic courses that make the town just across the state line from St. George, Utah, a senior sports mecca. The lifestyle here includes not just golf, but a major senior softball scene, plus tennis, biking and off-road vehicles for exploring the seven national parks and monuments within a few hours (Grand Canyon/Parashant Monument is just 11 miles; Lake Mead is 30 miles).

You’ll also see a Haven ranch, 1,859 square feet, with an outdoor fireplace, 4-foot garage extension, custom cabinets and a flooring upgrade. It was at $438,453, but you can get it at $399,214 if you’re ready now.

If you can wait longer before escaping the cold, Forgie and her team can show you two new phases of sites in Sun City’s Settlers Canyon and Bridge Landing — already selling fast with plans priced from the low $300s.

The drive back home from here to see Denver grandkids is 9 1/2 hours, 665 miles; and if you’re flying out for your getaway, McCarren International in Las Vegas is an hour and a half, 90 miles.

Sun City Mesquite is just off I-15 at Falcon Ridge Parkway.
