Pa. surpasses 33,000 COVID-19 deaths as hospitalizations rise

Pennsylvania reported 5,186 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday and 72 new deaths, bringing its pandemic toll to 33,003.

As of early Tuesday, Pennsylvania hospitals were caring for 3,349 COVID-19 patients, about 175 more than on Monday.

Pennsylvania’s 14-day average of daily hospitalizations, which fell below 2,600 in mid-October, has risen to nearly 2,900, according to state health department data.

More than 2,300 regular beds and about 530 adult intensive care beds remained available on Tuesday.

The state in its daily update Tuesday said 73.7% of Pennsylvanians 18 or older are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
