Police arrested a woman on Thursday who was suspected of driving while impaired in a February crash in Gilbert that killed another driver, according to court documents.

Angelica Burruel, 39, was traveling north on South Greenfield Road in a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado approaching East Bonanza Road in Gilbert shortly after 11 p.m. on Feb. 6, according to a probable cause statement filed by police in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Burruel drifted into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2010 Dodge Charger, according to documents. The driver of the Charger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents said police determined Burruel was driving about 60 mph in a posted 45 mph zone.

After the collision, a witness pulled Burruel from her Silverado, and Burruel tried to convince the witness to lie for her and tell police that Burruel's boyfriend had been driving and fled from the location, the document stated.

When the police arrived, Burruel stated that her boyfriend was the driver and he fled on foot.

Lab results later showed Burruel was impaired with drugs, the document stated. Also, physical evidence and witness statements indicated Burruel was the only person in her vehicle.

Burruel was arrested about 5:15 pm Thursday at her Laveen home and was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of manslaughter-reckless, a Class 2 felony.
