Utah Opera's "Silent Night" production

(KUTV) — Utah Opera presents five performances of 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning contemporary opera “Silent Night” for the first time on Capitol Theatre stage on January 18th through 26th, 2020.

“Silent Night” is inspired by the Oscar-nominated film, “Joyeux Noel,” which was based on the historic Christmas Truce events of 1914 during WWI when widespread ceasefires were declared along the frontlines between enemy troops.

Joining the show is Grammy-Award winning Baritone Daniel Belcher, who recently sang in Utah Opera’s productions of “The Long Walk,” and “Die Fledermaus,” performs Ponchel, the French lieutenant’s aide-de-camp. And Baritone Craig Irvin, recently at Utah Opera in 2018 as Stubb in “Moby-Dick,” performs the German Lieutenant Horstmayer. They are sharing what the audience can look forward to seeing in "Silent Night."
