One of St. Albans biggest annual events, the Great Race & Bay Day, has been canceled for 2020, after earlier being postponed because of coronavirus concerns.

Scheduled for June 27, the triathlon of a 3-mile run, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 3-mile paddle in St. Albans Bay, will not take place again until 2021.

The Bay Day celebration of live music, food, games and fireworks, which followed the race, is also canceled.

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce said the decision was made in compliance with Gov. Phil Scott’s executive order.

“The team involved in planning both events feel that the safety of our community is a priority at this time,” the Chamber said in a press release. “We hope to bring both events back in the summer of 2021. New dates will be announced at a later time.”
