Two men have been arrested for drugs offences after a high-speed chase involving a police helicopter on the M56 near Runcorn.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit supported by the police helicopter pulled over a silver BMW 116 around 11pm on Monday, June 14 on the M56 westbound carriageway near to junction 11.

The incident occurred near to where a man was airlifted to hospital after his lorry came of the M56 earlier that day.

A quantity of what is believed to be cannabis and crack cocaine was found within the BMW after it was stopped.

The occupants of the car, a 21-year-old man from Whitefield, Manchester and a 30-year-old man from Prestwich, Manchester were both arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.

The driver of the car, the 30-year-old man, was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving and driving without insurance.

Both men are currently being held in police custody where they are being questioned by officers.
