Cardiff University confirms online teaching to remain until February 22nd

As part of an ongoing review, Cardiff University has made the decision to defer the start of in-person teaching until February 22nd and to move teaching online, with the exception of health-related and practical-based  programmes where on-campus activity is required to meet programme learning outcomes.

However, the university has assured this does not affect the return of post-graduate research students.

The changes have been agreed “due to the considerable and ongoing uncertainty that exists around the new coronavirus variant and it’s transmission”.

In a statement sent out to students, the university has said that schools will be in touch with further details, including how to access your online learning and confirming any changes to your timetable.

They added that students with any scheduled teaching activity in the week commencing 11th of January would be contacted by their school “very shortly.” If you have scheduled teaching activity in the week commencing the 18th of January and thereafter, your school will be in touch by Friday 15th.

The campus will remain open, including residences, libraries, study spaces and other buildings. The university assured that these spaces are “safe” due to “evolving safety measures”.

Addressing those due to travel shortly, the university said: “travelling for educational purposes has been confirmed by the Welsh (and UK) government as a reasonable excuse to travel.”

The university will review their position regularly to ensure they can update their next steps promptly, and to keep all students informed about the planned date for a return to widespread in-person teaching.

The announcement concluded: “please be assured that your health and wellbeing remains our priority and will continue to determine all the decisions we have to make during the pandemic.”
