West Olive man hospitalized after motorcycle crash in Holland Township

HOLLAND TWP. — A West Olive man was airlifted to Grand Rapids following a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck in Holland Township Friday afternoon.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash just after 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 20. It happened on James Street, east of 120th Avenue.

Investigation showed a 59-year-old man from West Olive was traveling eastbound on James Street on a motorcycle. A 22-year-old Holland man driving a pickup truck pulled out of a private drive into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the truck and the driver, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital by Aero Med Helicopter with what the OCSO described as life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
