LOCAL ROUNDUP: Preppers roll in baseball opener

Mar. 28—Marcus Danchision and his MMI Prep teammates were in midseason form Saturday, which was bad news for season-opening opponent Mountain View.

Danchision threw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, and the Preppers backed him with a nine-hit attack in an 11-4 non-league baseball victory at Mountain View.

A Lehigh University recruit, Danchision struck out 10, walked one and hit two batters, but did not surrender a hit while working into the fifth inning with a 9-0 lead.

Three other Prepper pitchers finished up the seven-inning contest. All four Mountain View runs came in the sixth inning.

Kevin McNulty swatted a double and single, Colin Williams stroked two singles, and Chance Eyerly doubled for the Preppers.

Carter Bain had a two-run single in the sixth for Mountain View's lone hit.

MMI will visit Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg in another non-league game Monday before hosting Weatherly in its home opener Wednesday.

MMI Prep 5 Forest City 4

At Forest City, Kaylee Witner struck out nine and pitched one-run ball over the final six innings as the Lady Preppers rallied to win their season opener.

MMI trailed 3-2 entering the top of the seventh inning, but a walk to Irene Altmiller and consecutive hits by Witner, Alexis Dalesadro and McKenna Gallagher provided the offensive spark the Lady Preppers needed to pull out the victory.

Forest City got one run back in the bottom of the seventh, but Witner fanned two of the next three batters to end the game.

Grace Warner hit a double and single for the winners, Altmiller singled twice and Witner, Dalesandro and Gallagher each had a single.
