Bahrain condemns prayer ban at Al Aqsa Mosque

ManamaInternational community should shoulder its responsibilities and intervene to stop the grave Israeli practices in Jerusalem, said Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Rowaiei, before the Security Council during an open debate on the situation in the Middle East, on Tuesday.

The international community should make Israel respect the international conventions, laws and resolutions of the United Nations on Jerusalem as well protect the Palestinian people and their holy sites, he said.

The open debate was chaired by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of China, Liu Jieyi, who is the president of the Security Council for the month of July.

Bahrain condemned Israel’s ban on holding prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque, a move that completely contradicts the freedom to practice religious rites and is a flagrant infringement of Muslim sentiments around the world. He also expressed concern and regret at the violence that took place in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and stressed the need to immediately open Al-Aqsa Mosque for worshipers.

Al Rowaiei said that the Palestinian cause will continue to be the top priority to the Kingdom, which supports all efforts aimed at finding a just and lasting solution to this issue based on the two-state solution in accordance with the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
